Portals Dev Update: January Edition

Portals.fi

GM builders, here's what's new and coming up with the Portals API, straight from this month's Portals all-hands call.

πŸ“ˆ Growth, Usage & Reach

We are continuing to expand our data coverage and build authority in the DeFi space. Our major yield initiative has resulted in a significant expansion of protocol coverage, with approximately 20-30 new protocols added across liquid staking, liquid restaking, and lending.

This expansion is a key step toward our goal of creating a comprehensive yield dashboard that helps users deploy capital efficiently across different chains. Our marketing efforts are focused on content, podcasts, and community building to grow our user base, which currently stands at around 100 active daily users.

We anticipate this number will grow significantly with the launch of our new homepage and other user experience improvements.

πŸ—οΈ Recent Releases

Comprehensive Yield Dashboard Progress

We have made significant progress on our comprehensive yield dashboard. The recent expansion in protocol coverage includes liquid staking protocols (covering all major Ethereum LSDs and other chains), liquid restaking protocols, and lending protocols like Morpho, Euler, and others. We have added support for yield protocols, basis trading protocols, and on-chain capital allocator vaults. The coverage is now comprehensive across most major yield categories in DeFi.

ERC-4626 Vault Indexer (Live)

The ERC-4626 vault indexer is now live.

It automatically discovers newly deployed vaults across supported protocols the moment they go on-chain, including Morpho, Fluid, Euler, and other yield systems. This enables:

  • Faster vault discovery
  • Real-time indexing of yield opportunities
  • First-mover visibility for new strategies

Cross-Chain Execution Improvements

Cross-Chain Zaps Are Live. Cross-chain support continues to expand across swaps and execution flows.

Portals now delivers stable cross-chain route estimates with typical response times of 3–7 seconds per route, powered by Squid Router. This enables smoother any-to-any execution across chains without requiring integrators to manage routing complexity themselves.

Backend & Infrastructure Enhancements

Several infrastructure upgrades shipped this month:

  • Added Hyper EVM support for higher-performance execution
  • Expanded Warp Drive aggregator coverage across Curve, Uniswap, and major forks
  • Reduced infra costs via Ponder migration and AWS logging optimizations

Net result: faster queries, lower overhead, and more reliable APIs for integrators.

πŸ”œ Coming Soon

New Homepage Experience

The new Portals Explorer homepage is actively under development. The front-end team is focused on creating reusable API definitions and data fetching hooks to ensure a consistent and scalable architecture across the entire site. The homepage is designed to make yield opportunities more accessible and improve user onboarding. The goal is to create an interface where users can immediately see where to deploy capital for optimal yields across different chains.

New User Features

We are planning several new features to enhance the user experience:

Watchlists: Allow users to track their favorite tokens and positions.
Portfolio Tracking: A yield-focused portfolio view showing earnings over time in USD terms, focusing on yield performance rather than general portfolio metrics.
Loyalty Points System: A potential rewards program to incentivize platform usage and engagement.
Advanced Table Features: Enhanced data tables for better analysis and filtering.

Swap & Zap Endpoint Overhaul

Our swap and zap endpoints are currently being overhauled to improve:

  • Performance
  • Reliability
  • Execution consistency under load

This work focuses on tighter routing logic, better failure handling, and more predictable responses for production-grade integrations.

Branding and Identity

We recently conducted a brand philosophy workshop to refine Portals' identity as a premier infrastructure and curation platform in the DeFi space. Our team is now developing new visual concepts to create a more cohesive and powerful brand presence.

Event Presence

We are planning to increase our offline presence at prominent DeFi events throughout the year. This will help with B2B relationship building and bring more projects into the Portals ecosystem.

πŸŽ™οΈ The DeFi Drop

What is the DeFi Drop

The DeFi Drop is our podcast featuring deep dives with leading DeFi protocols. Each episode is a 20-minute, high-signal conversation about the tech, the team, and the vision behind innovative DeFi projects.

Recent and Upcoming Episodes

We have had the pleasure of hosting top protocols including Frax, Gauntlet, Upshift, and Term. Coming up, we have episodes with Super Form and IPOR Fusion. The IPOR Fusion episode will take an educational approach, exploring how to build vaults, the technical skills required, and how positions and strategies are put together.

If you are building something innovative in DeFi, we want to hear from you and share your story. The DeFi Drop is an excellent opportunity to showcase your protocol to our growing community and establish thought leadership in the space.

This effort ensures our branding remains authentic and aligned with our core mission and values of being the go-to destination for DeFi users and developers.

We are committed to empowering our developer community with the tools and resources needed to succeed. Everything we ship is designed to give your users an edge in DeFi.
