IPOR Fusion on DeFi Drop

In this episode of The DeFi Drop, Edward Ward sat down with Darren, Co-Founder of IPOR Labs, the team behind IPOR Fusion, an innovative DeFi protocol that bridges traditional finance concepts like interest rate swaps and fixed income with on-chain composability.

IPOR (Inter Protocol Over-block Rate) is building the fixed income infrastructure DeFi has been waiting for. With their latest launch, Fusion, they’ve introduced a modular liquidity layer that connects vaults, yield markets, and other DeFi components through permissionless architecture.

“We’re building the fixed-income layer for DeFi, the missing piece that allows protocols to trade yield, hedge rates, and structure products just like in traditional finance, but in a fully on-chain, composable way,” said Darren

The Power of ERC-4626 and Composability

One of the highlights of the conversation was IPOR’s use of the ERC-4626 vault standard, which ensures compatibility and interoperability across DeFi platforms. This design choice enables plug-and-play integrations with protocols like Harvest Finance, which recently used IPOR’s technology to power its Autopilot vaults.

“ERC-4626 lets us stay open and modular. It’s what makes the Fusion architecture reusable, letting developers compose new vault strategies with minimal friction,” Darren explained.

Portals.fi is also a big supporter of ERC-4626, with its Explorer indexing vaults and yield strategies the moment they’re deployed on-chain. This alignment highlights the growing importance of shared standards for liquidity and automation across DeFi.

Plasma Vaults and Real-Time Yield Access

The conversation also shed light on IPOR’s Plasma Vaults and its functionality. Fusion’s Plasma Vaults are designed to streamline complexity and improve capital efficiency. They use smart routing and internal components called Fuses to tap into external protocols and redirect liquidity to wherever it’s earning the most.

“Think of Fuses as DeFi’s API connectors. They let Fusion interact seamlessly with different ecosystems, from lending markets to yield protocols, creating a compounding flywheel of composability,” said Darren

Some of these vaults, including ETH-based strategies, are currently yielding up to 13% APY, with additional opportunities coming as new fuses go live.

Why Fusion Matters

Rather than launching another set of isolated vaults, Fusion operates as a coordination layer for yield. Developers can use it to build structured products, fixed-rate positions, and other automated strategies on top of a unified protocol.

“DeFi needs infrastructure that connects yield, not just generates it,” Darren emphasized. “With Fusion, we’re creating an ecosystem where yield, lending, and derivatives can finally speak the same language.”

What’s Next for IPOR

The team is focused on expanding its Fuse integrations, improving capital routing, and introducing new types of programmable fixed income. Each step moves Fusion closer to becoming a core layer for DeFi builders.

Edward wrapped the conversation by sharing how Portals.fi will continue to surface IPOR’s vaults and strategies through the Portals Explorer, giving users direct access to these yield opportunities with just one click.

About IPOR Fusion: IPOR Fusion is a modular DeFi infrastructure layer designed to unify fixed income, yield, and derivative strategies on-chain. At its core are Plasma Vaults, powered by Fuses that route capital across protocols to optimise returns and increase composability. Built on the ERC-4626 standard, Fusion enables permissionless integrations, real-time yield access, and structured product creation.

About Portals.fi: Portals.fi is the DeFi Super App. A one-click gateway to the entire on-chain economy. Powered by real-time data and seamless execution, Portals.fi connects traders to over 20 million assets, thousands of protocols, and every major blockchain.
